Foundress Week

I went to one event for Foundress week. I attended mass and the sermon couldn't have been more perfect for this class. The sermon was on impressions. The impressions we leave on people and in this world is our legacy and what matters. We have the power to decide what impression we want to make and what legacy to leave behind. It is how the people we encounter will remember us by. Are we leaving a good impression or a horrible one. We have the ability to make this world a better place.

This truly resonates with me and the readings we have had so far in this class. We have been reading about empires and conquests amongst many different groups or people, countries and places. Not all the impressions those people left behind were good ones. To them they may have thought that they were leaving some sort of legacy behind, but many actions from back then are still felt today. For instance, Native Americans and African Americans still feel the impression from being enslaved and exploited. Even after all these years, we find people apologizing and/or feeling resentment. There are even some who still feel negatively about African Americans, and that is all because of previous impressions someone has left. These impressions aren't just in America but all over the world.

We should be wary about what impressions we are leaving, and aim for them to always be for good. We do not know who will be affected by those impressions later on. It isn't always about making a grand gesture, but even the small things count. The impressions we leave for the next generation in our family is just as crucial.

God doesn't want us to be perfect, but He wants us to make good decisions that reflect on who He is. We have the power and decide our own legacy.
